Replace Cabin Air Filter on 2002 Ford Escape

The cabin air filter on the 2002 Ford Escape helps prevent pollutants and allergens from entering the passenger cab of the SUV. Ford Motor Company recommends replacing the standard filter every 15,000 miles. Unlike lots of other vehicles that locate the filter behind the glove box, the cabin air filter on the Escape is situated in the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

Tools You'll Need:

Turn the engine off and open the hood. Locate the passenger side cover panel directly beneath the windshield (the black plastic piece). Pry up the caps from the cover with a flat-head screwdriver.

Take out the screw or screws you have uncovered by removing the plastic cap or caps. Set them aside in a safe place. Unscrew Phillips screws holding the molded plastic piece down on the inside of the automobile.

Snap the metal clips closed on the housing.

Insert the new cabin air filter, with the air-flow direction the same as the elderly.
